The Haydu Family
brings in their catch! |
Kingfisher Charters & Lodge - About Us
Your hosts Chuck and Jeanette Haydu
were both born in Washington State. Chuck was raised on the Kalama,
one of the most productive steelhead and salmon streams in
Washington. Jeanette was raised near Mt. St. Helens on the also
famous Toutle River. Both grew up in fishing and hunting families
and spent summers and winters alike on the rivers fishing steelhead
and king salmon.
When Chuck turned 21 he came north to Alaska to work in remote
logging camps. He met Jeanette in 1978 and they married in 1980. At
that time, they brought their 38’ double ender sailboat to Alaska to
spend the next four years living aboard and raising their two small
daughters. During this time they pretty much lived off the land,
fishing and hunting all the remote spots in which they lived. The
family -- now with three girls -- moved to Prince of Wales Island in
1987. They left the logging industry and started a fishing business
in 1989, now with five girls.
The family started Kingfisher Charters and Lodge, Inc. in 1994 and
employed the five small children to whatever degree they could help.
Today, the Haydu family and its business have grown up; all the
while captivating guests with friendliness and skillful service.
Kingfisher Lodge has enjoyed a nearly 100% customer satisfaction
rate over these many years.
Alaska is home for the Haydus. They live and breathe it. Both Chuck
and Jeanette are skilled and enthusiastic anglers and hunters, and
they will happily show you one of the best times of your life if you
give them the chance. Chuck will guide you to that trophy king
salmon or halibut, and Jeanette will be your hostess and cook who
will delight you with fresh seafood main courses home baked deserts.
(Check out her trophies).

Kingfisher Lodge strives to be a progressive business with the motto
“we can always improve”. With that in mind Chuck and Jeanette are
always looking to better serve their customers to keep them coming
back year after year. If guests can only come once to Alaska, the
Haydu family will work to make that the trip of a lifetime!
